This page describes how to get to each end of the trail for a thru hike. If you have friends or family that can drive you to the trail, and pick you up on completion, that will most likely be the easiest way. If you do not have that assistance available, the following may be of some help.
Getting to the Northern Terminus:
At the Northern terminus, it is impossible to get to the trailhead via public transportation. There simply isn’t any public transportation which goes to North Troy, where Journey’s End Road is located. So, all options listed here end with getting a private shuttle to the northern trailhead.

There are many options for private shuttle service in northern Vermont. It is important to contact a potential shuttle service provider well before you actually need them to come and pick you up. Getting to the Southern Terminus:
There are many options for getting to the Southern Terminus of the Long Trail. Because Williamstown and North Adams are serviced by various means of public transportation, you can fly into many of the surrounding towns in New York, Massachusetts, or Connecticut and get yourself to Williamstown/North Adams with little trouble. There are many possible combinations for your transportation to the Southern Terminus, and I have only listed a few.
